Steven Stovitz, M.D., brings longtime sports medicine and research interest to Minnesota Sports Medicine. In addition to serving as Research Director, he is Assistant Professor in the University of Minnesota Department of Family Medicine and Community Health where he serves as Clinical Faculty and Preceptor for the Family Medicine Residency Program, Chairman of Sports Medicine Curriculum and Clinical Educator for Family Medicine and Sports Medicine at the University of Minnesota Medical School. He is on the medical staff at the University of Minnesota Medical Center-Fairview.
Dr. Stovitz earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia, Richmond, Va, in 1993, and completed his residency at the Greater Lawrence Family Practice Residency Program at Tufts University School of Medicine, Lawrence, Md. He completed a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis in 2000 and has earned a Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Sports Medicine from the American Board of Family Practice. He is published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and is a frequent presenter at regional and national conferences. His research interests include musculoskeletal medicine and physical fitness.
He currently serves as a team physician for the University of Minnesota’s Athletic Department and provides medical coverage for the Minnesota State High School League and such events as the City of Lakes Loppet Cross-Country Ski Race in Minneapolis. Dr. Stoviz was recently named to Mpls/St. Paul magazine's 2007 Top Docs. The annual survey randomly samples 2,500 licensed and practicing Minnesota physicians about who they consider to be the best in the industry.
