What Our Fellows Say About Us

We're proud of our legacy in offering orthopaedic physicians an exceptional sports medicine learning opportunity. More than 32 orthopaedic physicians have graduated from our program and are in successful practices throughout the United States. Here's what our most recent fellows had to say about our program.

"The fellowship at Minnesota Sports Medicine allows you to gain great clinical and operative experience while being involved with athletes at all levels. The staff are easy to work with and are great mentors. This year has been an extremely valuable experience for me."

- Jennifer Swaringen, M.D.
Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellow, 2004-05

"The Fellowship is a unique experience which provides many learning opportunities, including operative experience, clinical involvement, research activities, coverage of sporting events, didactic lectures and practical information on practice management. One of the great strengths of the program is its flexibility and the ability to customize the fellowship experience according to interests and educational goals. While every fellow receives a strong educational base in sports medicine, there is opportunity to concentrate on one particular area of interest, or pursue further research of involvement in multiple areas.

- Jody Jachna, M.D.
Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellow, 2004-05

"
The MSM Fellowship was everything I needed in a sports medicine fellowship. I worked closely with some of the best orthopaedic surgeons in their respective areas of expertise, providing me with an array of key shoulder and knee surgical procedures. As a result, it helped bolster my arthroscopic and open surgical techniques. I feel very capable of handling a wide array of surgical and non-surgical orthopaedic conditions in my high-level and recreational athletes and non-athletes.

My experience in sports coverage was also excellent. I worked with the Minnesota Twins, the University of Minnesota Gopher football and wrestling, the Minnesota Swarm professional lacrosse, Macalester College, the Twin Cities Marathon and two local high schools. I attended the Music City Bowl as well as multiple other sports events.

I feel strongly that this fellowship demonstrated what skills are necessary to becoming a highly effective sports medicine team physician and surgeon."

- Michael Marger, M.D., MPH
Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellow, 2005-06
